In this study, it has been attempted to identify and evaluate the conditions of a port through applying a SWOT analysis, with the ultimate aim of promoting the market situation of the port. For this purpose, a case study has been conducted on the Iranian Port of Amirabad on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. The significant items related to the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the mentioned port in regard with its commercial activities were listed as the first step of the study. The second step was assessing how such factors were weighed in comparison to the international benchmarks in respect with maritime ports, which was then followed by the third step, namely identifying the ways the positive aspects could be highlighted and promoted, and the negative ones minimized and avoided. The study would be concluded by the results and their implications, as well as the areas that were left to be explored in future research.
